Navette in Real Life
Minting Thursday

Seeing the excitement that Navette generated in real life at the opening on Thursday in Paris was the highlight of last week. Community members had a chance to see first-hand how generative art can translate into a physically crafted artwork; a piece meant for use and display, complete with texture, dimension, and other properties that elude the screen, like material reflection of light.

We enjoyed watching moments of wonder dance across faces in the room as onlookers viewed the tapestry for the first time. People were realizing: The possibilities at the intersection of generative art and craft are boundless and just beginning to unfold.

Guests ponder the artwork
Navette and other displays exhibited by CPG partner TRAME, including live 3D printing of earthenware vases, sparked a variety of animated conversations.

Artist Alexis André was in his element throughout the reception at Le Bon Marché to explain his process and discuss details of the output. Several CPG community members had a chance to engage him directly.

In the lead up to mint this week, we’ll be publishing previews of the outputs on our Twitter feed to stimulate imagination about what the next generative work and companion tapestry could possibly be. While you won’t be able to guess, it will be fun to imagine. Think color, texture, and pattern without boundaries.
There will also be an announcement regarding a special utility for holders of Navette.
